Dan’s Diagnostics – BMW FRM Module

Many BMWs have a Footwell Module or FRM that controls electrical functions such lighting,

Something as simple as a blown bulb can cause the module to log a fault and switch off the supply to that bulb. Unfortunately once the bulb is replaced the supply is not switched back on and the fault cannot then be deleted.

BMW can charge in excess of £400 to replace the BMW FRM, just to get the bulb working again.

We have invested in Autologic which has a function that the dealer tool does not – to reset the short circuit fault code and bring the bulb back to life!

These pictures demonstrate the procedure in action on a reset we did to a E90 recently.

We found a forum thread relating to this very topic on www.e90post.com

A member attempted to install a new module without professional programming and reported the following:

Posted by Amir87:

“I installed it (FRM) without going to the dealer and my electronics have gone haywire.

Driver side window controls passenger window and vice versa.

High beams don’t work.

Side view mirrors won’t adjust.

Courtesy lights no worky.

Fogs come on with parking lights.

High beams stalk activate cornering lights.

Just a heads up for future reference. It NEEDS to be programmed to work.”
